About the Book
This is the first bilingual book written in English and the standardized orthography of Nigerian Pidgin. It is three books in one.
It will take you on the journey and history of how God used Apostle Roy Okonkwo to translate the entire Bible into Nigerian Pidgin using the standardized orthography of the language. It includes the New Testament book of Matthew translated into Nigerian Pidgin.
It is about forgiveness, God’s patience, miracles, provision and answered prayers.
We hope that readers will be encouraged in their faith through the stories and lessons learned outlined in each chapter of the book. Scripture references are provided for personal study.
There is a chapter dedicated to teaching the reader how to read and write Nigerian Pidgin.
There has been an exceptionally long-standing need for substantial literature written in Nigerian Pidgin using a standardized orthography and alphabet. This book seeks to meet this growing need.
Our desire is that this book will help speakers of Nigerian Pidgin to read and understand God’s message in their heart language. It will also help non speakers of Nigerian Pidgin to learn how to speak and read in the language, making it a book for all people and languages.
We want to tell you why we wrote this book ‘Translating the Bible-Our Journey with God’.
This book came about after we had translated the New Testament Bible into Nigerian Pidgin (NP). After we had checked the NP Bible, we took the New Testament Book of Matthew checked that part thoroughly again and made it ready for publication as a forerunner to the remaining New Testament books of the Bible. But something happened.
We were not happy, we felt that something was missing and could not understand why we were not rejoicing that we had already made arrangements with the publisher to print the book of Matthew.
After a few days of feeling like this, we told each other how we felt. It was then that the Lord told us that He wanted us to write this book detailing the history and story about how God used Apostle Roy Okonkwo to translate the entire Bible into Nigerian Pidgin using the standardized orthography of the language.
The Lord also told us to write about how He can use whoever He chooses to generate and distribute His spiritual and material blessings to His people all over the world. We were thrilled and immediately embarked on the writing of this book.
While writing the English portion of this book, the Lord told us to translate the English version into Nigerian Pidgin. With the two versions, English and Nigerian Pidgin, and the translated book of Matthew into Nigerian Pidgin, it would be three books in one.
The translation of the New Testament book of Matthew is for millions of people who speak and understand Nigerian Pidgin. It will help them read and understand God’s message in their heart language, a language which they use in interacting with each other. It will also help non speakers of Nigerian Pidgin learn how to speak and read the Bible in the language.
